Our backyard is practically filled with small pests (chipmunks, squirrels, birds, etc) and recently have been using a high powered air rifle to kill some of them. However, yesterday, we killed a Chipmunk and a Squirrel. They were definitely dead, but I checked them this morning and they were completely gone. We don't have any cats or dogs, and we're worrying if we have an even bigger pest lurking in our back yard and starting to worry.

you leaving dead carcasses in your backyard can and will obviously attract scavengers and predators such as coyotes,hawks,owls,wolfs,raccoons,ect.... so its really your fault if you do have one show up. plus why are you just shooting them for no reason???? if your eating them yourself that's one thing but killing them for any other reason is just ignorant. maybe in the morning when you leave for work that wolf you attracted will still be hungry and waiting for you.

Coyote, bobcat, wolf, mountain lion (will eat all three). A few more will eat a deer if something else killed it-and might be able to get a fawn, such as red or gray fox and golden eagles. Other predators that probably would eat the squirrels and chipmunks but not deer include snakes (many species), hawks (like red-tailed hawks), weasels, domestic dogs and cats. An owl might take a nocturnal squirrel like a flying squirrel, but probably would be lucky to get a diurnal squirrel or chipmunk. A bear would eat a fawn or hurt deer if it came across one, but probably wouldn't hunt them actively.

I am with Ink on this one. There's a world of difference between chipmunks and squirrels...and rodents like rats and mice. I can't see any reason to be shooting them OUT OF SEASON.

As for what may have taken their dead carcasses - it was mostly likely an owl or hawk. Also, crows and vultures will take them as food. Even bald eagles will scavenge for food by picking-up dead animals that they find.

there may be feral cats and dogs around.

but also foxes, weasels, stoats, and similar small predators are common in cities.

Oh, raccoons would eat them up too

and coyotes, plenty of cities now have coyotes in them.

and rats too, rats would eat them.

It might be a wolf or a coyote.

But, i know of these ants that can totally obliterate dead animals over night.

They only live in like, africa though.
