I am looking for a firearm under $350 preferably with a safety but not a must, in 9mm, compact/sub compact and magazine size does not matter.

Any suggestions?

In my view there are 2 pistols out there that characterize the first-class of two worlds: The Glock 19 is a 9mm auto without a controls on it however a semi-d/a striker fired trigger. If you like that form of gun- its most often the simpler of the bunch. The FNP FNX is the other one- it has the nice da/sa set off, and an excellent usable de-cocker protection, and is hammer fired. If you want the entire bells and whistles- go for the FNX. Each these weapons weigh about 22 ouncesand hold 15/17 rounds, have a 4" barrel. Price~ $500-550, the FNX may just price $50 more. Then there is CZ.......... If you need smaller- seem the the Kahr.

The 9mm is a great caliber, it has low recoil, good penetration and it has a good reputation of being a man stopper

Spend about $100 more and get a Bersa Thunder 9 Ultra Compact. Its the smallest 9mm with da/sa and de-cocker safety that I know of. An excellent gun for the money.

Taurus has the 709 for about $299, and the 809 and 111 for about $329. The 809 is the much better buy of the 3.

You should be able to find a used Beretta 9000S for around $300

Nice little guns. 12 round mag, safety.

Kind of funky looking, never really caught on. Replaced by the PX4

SCCY CPX-1 (with safety) or CPX-2 (without safety): http://www.americanrifleman.org/articles/sccy-industries-cpx-2-review/

Honestly, unless they are single action, most modern handguns are better off without safeties and only have them to comply with stupid laws in some states. When properly carried in a holster that covers the trigger, guns are safe, especially if the trigger pull is long and heavy. I believe that safeties are more dangerous than not because it just adds one more thing to think about when using the gun and can lead to an unwarranted alliance on them.

I would go with a Springfield XD. They have a grip safety and won't go off when you bang the trigger like a Glock.
