So I've been looking for a good inexpensive, short, reliable shotgun mostly for target shooting, defense, shtf, that sort of thing. I don't want to get an 870 or 500 like just about everyone else says. I like both of the shotguns mentioned in the title and have heard great things about both, unfortunately no one has yet compared the two, despite being quite similar. So I ask you, YA. What's your opinion? Pros/Cons of each, your answers are much appreciated and thank you in advance!

Friend, you can find a used Ithaca 37 for that money. Likewise, you might find one with the slug barrel (22-24'') which will allow you to use it for HD rather than a 26-28''.

The Stevens may be perfectly functional, but then again so is a Yugo.

And if your life depended on a car, would you rather have a brand new Mustang, or a Yugo?

Get the 37. There is NO reason to buy a Chinese clone, other than to deface the name of the United States of America. Don't support the people positioning themselves for a financial takeover.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a well made copy of a venerable firearm design.Just look at about 99% of the AR-15s and 1911s on the market. Global trade is smart. If the Chinese can make something cheaper without an appreciable loss in quality, then you'd be dumb not to buy it from them. Spend the few hundred dollars you'll save on ammo and maybe an old Ithaca 37 trigger assembly that will let you slam fire your Stevens 350.

The Stevens 350 Security is a Chinese clone of the Ithaca 37.

They're essentially the same gun except for the Stevens being of a lower build quality. It also has that weird angled stock that only seems to accentuate recoil. Accordingly, the Stevens 350 is half the price of a new Ithaca 37.

I would recommend just getting the real thing.

The Ithaca Model 37 has been around for decades and has a proven track record with police departments, hunters and limited military service....... It hasn't been that popular for years because Ithaca Gun Company has had difficult financial problems for quite awhile..... So there's been a gap of several years where they weren't even made...... That's why you hear so much about the Remington 870 and the Mossberg 500....

Anyways ---- If its a choice between the Ithaca or the Stevens then pick the Ithaca..... The Stevens as far as I know is new and has no proven track record for being a decent gun..... Its just a cheap copy.....
