Will hard cast bullets go through a bulletproof vest? From what I read bullets with a steel core will go through since they don't deform like lead does, so wouldn't regular hard cast bullets go through since they don't deform either ? I don't know if it would go through a level 3 vest but it seems like it would go through a level 2 vest at least.

Hello Tom!

A "hard cast lead bullet" will not defeat a bulletproof vest!

There are two ways to make a "hard cast" bullet, either by increasing the amount of antimony in the lead blend, or "cold quenching" the bullet in ice cold water as you drop the bullet from the mould. When you alter the antimony level in the lead blend, you alter the bullet's ability to deform. When you "cold quench" the bullet, you increase the bullet's "brittleness", and increase the likelihood of the bullet "shattering" on impact.

Lead bullets (both cast and swaged) have been the age old universal projectile, especially for gallery-type where shooting is conducted "indoors", and the ranges use some form of armor plate as the back stops!

Additionally, virtually any experienced shooter/reloader can tell you, that IFF (if and only if) a "hard cast bullet" COULD penetrate any form of bulletproof vest, it would be included along side armor piercing rounds as "banned cop killer" ammunition!

Good luck and good shooting!

this could be a reliable question sir yet we are lacking information on what style of bullet (there are diverse hardnesses in problematical-solid bullets), what high quality and what style of vest we are conversing approximately... A 500 S&W magnum hardcast might penetrate a point 3 ballistic vest. a 40 5 LC will truthfully no longer. To do away with any misapprehention in skill readers: a problematical solid bullet isn't a lead bullet. It includes lead yet in addition many different components that make it plenty extra advantageous and penetrate plenty extra effectual than a lead bullet.

depends heavily on velocity and energy. I believe hard cast bullet can be armor penetrating if moving fast enough or has sufficient energy, and very soon i will have photos to back it up.

body armor is rated on bullet velocity and energy, if the bullet (any bullet) is going faster than the vest's rating than the vest will be defeated.

It might help to note the weapon you are shooting. Hard cast rifle bullets will defeat body armor. If it don't the wearer will be dead from the shock of it hitting.

Your wrong on all levels in this thought process. Body armor is rated & tested to cover a wide range of projectiles. A hard cast will not be any more effective than a jhp or fmj.

or solid copper, it depends on the vest a high power rifle will defeat the lesser vests easily .. the latest generations of body armor like dragon skin can stop most small arms rounds ..
