I was put on probation in august of last year for a paraphenilia charge. I was approved for a pretrial diversion, and was given a year's probation. Once I complete probation, expungement is available to me. No where on my paperwork does it say that I am not able to purchase a gun, and none of the stipulations of my charges violate any of the questions asked on a firearm transfer form. I live in TN. Anybody have an answer?

You cannot buy a gun if you're a felon, but the NCIS and state police (depending on your jurisdiction) are not obligated to approve your background check if you are not a felon. They will make the call based on their assessment of your situation. Remember, it's an "instant background check," and if there is any question they will say "no" or "not just now." So depending on a lot of mysterious factors that change from time to time, you will probably not be denied, but it could happen. You could also be told that you have to return in 24 hours for the answer.

I have heard that getting knocked down once makes it tougher the next time, but I'm not sure I believe that. Being a felon is what really makes it tough to buy a gun.

If you are talking about a long gun you can always buy one of those without a background check at a gun show or private sale.

The laws are different, so I'd check with your probation officer, however, if it was for a felony, you can rest assure the firearms rights are gone. Also know that many times people think they are eligible for an expungment even though they are not. Once you are off probation, I would head to shredmyrecord. They have a free eligibility checker. Good luck

If you have been convicted of a felony or of any crime for which you could have been imprisoned for a period of 1 yr or more then you cannot buy, own or be in possession of a firearm.

That restriction gets a little fuzzy with some people (both civilian and law enforcement) when it comes to blackpowder firearms.

Go to a gun store and ask for a form 4473 and read it over THREE TIMES. Then if you find nothing blocking you, attempt to purchase a firearm. You'll get your answer. If you're in a good state, you won't have any problems. If you're in CA, MA, NY, or NJ, move to a good state.

I just recently tried https://tr.im/mwKWK last month to see if I could track down my birth-parent. My bio father left me when I was 8, and has refused to contact me since. I grew up with my biological Mother and Step-father. I have only ever talked to my biological dad a couple times till recently. All I knew of him personally when I conducted the search was his full name, and the state of a previous address he used to have.

When the results came back based on the minimal info I had, It pulled up a current address even his phone number. When I called the phone no., I heard the voice of what sounded like it may be my step-brother. I asked if Joseph(my bio father) was present, and he said no but to try back after 7.

I haven't done anything with the info since, But yeah I found what I was interested in.

Yes. You will be denied a purchase until you have it expunged.

did you ask a gun store employee?

prohibitied persons are felons, ppl with a domestic assult/abuse, or have any drug convictions. for paraphenialia charge its not a full drug charge, so there's still a hcance you can keep & bear arms. I'd aska gun store employee, or go to a few different gun stores and ask around. alternitviely contact your state's firearms regulation divison and ask them.
