I'm looking to get into archery and it seems these are the risers that attracted me the most, and are pretty much the cheapest also. I would just like soem comparitive info if possible. As man say to get WINACT as well as Winstar. The Winact is over twice the price as the winstar. SO if anyone can tell me any known differences between the riser I would be grateful.
The only noticeable difference is i hear KAP paints inside their threaded bushings, which can be anoying?
ANy help much appreciated.

The difference is that the Winact at one point used to be Win&Win's top of the line riser and the Winstar was built as a beginner riser. The Winstar II is a capable riser, about the only complain I have with that riser is the limb alignment adjustment and the tiller adjustment is all done by adjusting the limb bolt, the cylinder is asymetrical. So, while there is a way to lock down the limb alignment, there's a chance you might knock that off alignment when you're adjusting the tiller. Get's a bit annoying if you like to tinker with the bow a lot. I've never used or worked on the Winact, but wince they're both made by the same company, KAP is part of Win & Win much like Toyota and Lexus, the limb adjustment might be the same with that one also.

The Winact is about 100 grams lighter than the Winstar II. The Winact is also available in 2 sizes, while the Winstar is only available in the 25" size. Now the size to buy depends on your draw length. For draw lengths under 25" you'll need a 23" riser, 26" and over you need the 25" riser.

Like what Chris said, I've seen a lot of Winstar risers and worked on them, never owned one I use primarily Hoyt risers, but I've never run across much issue with the paint. Sometimes a bit hard to put the plunger in the first time around, but no big deal.

I have used KAP bows for years in instruction. As you have said except for the occasional paint in the threads I have never had any problems whatsoever. Since this is a one time purchase have the archery shop set it up for you and you will be quite happy. Now as for the difference it is price and whether you plan on going into competitive archery. The winstar is the entry level limb made with glass fiber and wood where as the winact uses a carbon laminate process. Both risers they have are aluminum and interchangeable for the limbs which makes them so popular. As you progress in skill so can you progress in the quality of the limbs and stay with the same riser you can also change grips as your hand grows as well. These bows are a great choice for entry into the sport of archery.
