You know what? Since I have never really owned "the best revolver ever made", I simply don't have the qualifications to answer your question. Go figure...

Korth. They are hand built in Germany, and prices begin at about $4700.

Colt Python for best double action.

Ruger Blackhawk for single action.

I have always been very fond of the Colt Python currently still own two, a 6" Royal Blue and a 4" inch satin (or 'matte') stainless. I've never owned the 29 but the blue on those was awesome.

Korth makes a great revolver but it is very high dollars. So I have to agree, the earlier Pythons are hard to beat.

Everyone asks a version of this at some time. One person will like a 1911 version gun, one will like a springfield XD, and at least one guy will like a boot tied to his cat the best. You can't really say there is an overall best gun, just a best in this situation.

John hit the nail on the head, Korth makes the finest revolvers on the planet, hands down.

Now for practical purposes, Ruger Blackhawk series of pistols for single action, and their Redhawk line of pistols for double action.

Freedom Arms is another fine revolver but for what you pay for one, I honestly expected a little more. The same accuracy can be had with a Ruger, for a fraction of the cost.

Smith & Wesson model 19 gets my vote. It seems that every cop in america had or wished he had one on his hip.

John, Boker, DJ, just becaus Korth makes the most expensive revolver doesn't mean they are the best. It is sort of like Single Malt Scotch. I just read an article today about a bar in St. Paul that stocked up on some 55-year old The MacAllan Single Malt. They paid about $12,000.00 per bottle and will be selling it for $525.00 per one ounce shot.

Just like there is no whisky in the world worth over $500.00 and ounce, there is no plain, new made revolver worth nearly $5,000.00.

I might be willing to fork over a couple of grand for a Hamilton Bowen custom sixgun, but that ain't likely either.

In my opinion, one of the best sixguns of all time is the Smith & Wesson Model 19. With a 4" barrel, I'd have to say that my old hero, Bill Jordan, was right. It is the Perfect Packing Pistol. Light weight, handy, and accurate. What more can a fellow ask of a sixgun?

My old man enjoyed guns, but he wasn't big on handguns. So when I wanted to buy one with my money and his paperwork, I had to make sure I got best I could possibly get - as I might not be buying another for a long time. What did I buy? A Colt Python with a royal blue finish and 6 inch barrel. Of course I couldn't stop at just one. So I ended-up buying a few of them. I have to admit. The Smith & Wesson model 27 is a heck of a nice gun. In some ways the lockwork on the Smiths are a bit better than the Colts. Yeah, the Colt is smooth, but the S&W 27 is robust. Finally, Ruger makes a heck of a good lineup of revolvers. I remember the old Ruger Redhawk in 357 magnum. The problem was, Ruger stopped making the guns because people were pushing the limits of what it could do with their home grown ammunition. What a pity. Another interesting Ruger product was the Blackhawk in 357 Maximum. Sorta wish they made that one in a Redhawk. But it's long long gone.

I am jumping on the John, DJ, and Boker wagon. If Korth cost $500 it would be an even better gun than it is at $5,000! It is a ridiculous price, that is why it is a "lotto" gun for even the largest private collectors. The only civilian I could think that would benefit from one at this price would be Jerry Miculek. I am sure he has a couple.

Korth for sure. When I win the lottery, I'm getting a couple.

Also, don't forget the great Dan Wesson models!
