We need to settle this once and for all, so we've got something to refer to when we get yet another "What's the best gun?" Question.

What IS the BEST GUN for EVERYBODY, so far above the rest that ALL THE OTHER GUN COMPANIES should just FOLD UP AND GO HOME?

Everyone needs a Best Gun. You need one. I need one. We should ALL have one!

The purpose would be: "For Everything" including home defense, hunting aliens, digging a well, and Finding True Love. It must of course be in The Best Caliber, have The Best Capacity, The Best Sights, The Best Feeding System, and of course must be Completely Lightweight and with Manageable Recoil.

And a gun this awesome should also cook breakfast for you in the morning.

So, WHAT'S THE ULTIMATE BEST GUN FOR EVERYONE FOR EVERYTHING FOR ALL TIME??

Oh yeah...including hunting.

Hi LGM,

After reading your question, I sat back in my new computer chair and took a sip of my Pepsi.

5 seconds later, I has an epiphany.

The BEST gun that meets and exceeds your criteria is (drum roll please)..........

The GE M134 mini gun Predator version.

Shoots the readily available .308/7.62 NATO cartridge.

Rate of fire is slowed to 1,250 rounds per minute.

Can't think of a better weapon for home defense.

Will take down any game on the planet.

Virtually no recoil. See movie.

Fairly lightweight but does help to be a big guy to carry and operate. This is not the firearm for a lot of gals and whimpy kids. Perhaps once these go on the market it will spark a much needed fitness revolution.

By a far margin, this beauty has the most capacity ever. Hopefully once a few gun grabbers/liberals/democrats see this All American Firearm, a few will have grabbers and depart this world. Good riddance.

This has the best sights ever. Mark I Mod 0 eyeballs. Point in the general direction and pull the trigger. Your eyes will tell the brain where to move to get rounds on target.

Lastly, the mini gun is black and very tactical.

Just remembered, rotating barrel firearms are not classified by the BATF as machine guns. Hence the do not require a NFA tax stamp.

I would probably go for a Russian AK47 or SKS for the sheer cheap price of the weapons and the known reliability. I mean come on, both weapons can be buried in dirt, drowned in water, dunked in sand, and run over by a truck and still function properly. The ammo is surplus and in a "end of the world" scenario it would be plentiful due to the popularity. The weapons are also highly customizable and will mostly still function the same, with the exception of the SKS on occasion jamming when fitted with aftermarket magazines.

OK, I'll play: the Holland and Holland bolt action magazine rifle, in 375. It's only nine pounds, recoil is manageable, there isn't much that's too big for it, the ballistics of the cartridges are such that it's flat enough for shooting at any sensible hunting range, and the list price of 25 thousand pounds will cut down on the kiddies. Don't know how it cooks the bacon, though.

Han Solo's BlasTech DL-44 heavy blaster pistol.

Or just a photo of Hope Solo.

EDIT: Okay, maybe I'll just go ahead and say a specific firearm.

I think, in all honesty, that the Savage Mark II is the best all-around gun for a beginner. The base model, not anything with a fancy thumbhole stock made of laminated wood. That's because it's an accurate, durable, and reliable rifle chambered for an inexpensive cartridge, and it can excel at target shooting, small game hunting, and if necessary and there were no other alternatives, it could be called upon for self defense.

As a bolt-action rifle, it has fewer moving parts than a semi-auto or lever-action rifle, and it's compact enough for just about anyone to fire. Magazines are inexpensive, too. Just an all-around inexpensive gun that gives a lot of bang for your buck, and is perfect for a beginning shooter.

EDIT #2: I can't believe no one is giving me thumbs up for Hope Solo. Here, a photo of her:

Here's another:

Come on, boys! A vote for Hope Solo!

There is no "one gun" option any more than there is a "one knife" option.

You're not going to clean your toenails with a machete.

Consider versatility.

But alas, it's single shot but the good news is zombies don't move fast.

For newbies and everyone else I'd say Mossberg 590A1.

It's a 12 gauge pump, traditional stock, great sights, 18.5" barrel.

Very multi-purpose weapon.

For the pistol part

http://www.ruger.com/products/sp101/specSheets/5720.html

(They come in different barrel lengths.)

Interestingly, Ohio doesn't allow rifles for deer hunting but you can use a pistol of at least .357 magnum so long as the barrel is at least 5". Or a shotgun slug.

As for True Love...... Gave up on that and I can cook my own breakfast.

The one I'm trying to sell you, sucker! (Go into a store with that attitude, and I think they'll size up your wallet rather than your needs.)

So much comes down to personal preference, and you haven't even narrowed it down to pistol, rifle, or shotgun yet.

I don't think there is a good gun for digging wells--try a drill. For finding love, I'd say a .22--either pistol or rifle. Competition brings out the stud in everyone.

Isn't it OBVIOUS ??? A Hex receiver Mosin Nagant built in 1938 by a guy named Yuri. These are without a doubt the most awesome Sniper/Big Game/Plinking/Paper punchers on the face of the planet. If you have the bayonet that goes with it even the mightiest Elephant in Africa will drop DRT out of respect for your choice of rifle.

I'm surprised no one mentioned either of these, but it's a toss up between the Desert Eagle in .50 AE and S&W 500 in .500 S&W Magnum.

Has to be the .22 Eargesplitten Loudenboomer capable of taking anything a nuub should be shooting at. Not sure what rifle to suggest,I do remember there is one that the bolt tends to eject itself into skulls, just can't get name right now.

Complete and total noobs should not own real firearms. The best gun for a noob would be an airsoft rifle.

I don't know. As long as it's a sniper capable of thousand yard shots I guess anything would be good. Oh yeah it has to be cheap to shoot and be deadly accurate with a 40 dollar Tasco scope hung on it.

Well, a Savage Axis of course....There is no hope for any rifle to exceed the performance.

The other companies may as well pack their **** and get out of the business...forever!

BTW....chambered in .270 or .50 BMG or what will poke in the chamber....it will fire anything.
