I have a knife, about a four inch blade, that I am keeping on me and my dad says I do not need a concealed weapons permit for it, but I am just double checking... anyone know?

In Nevada, a concealed weapon permit is for handguns only. This is not the case in all states. In Arizona, a concealed weapon permit allows you to carry any weapon that you legally own. A quick check check did not turn up specific knife carry laws for Nevada. Would be best to check with the Nevada Attorney Generals office or consult a lawyer in your area.

It sounds like you are in the clear according to a few websites. You don't need a permit to conceal a knife in Nevada. There is no specifiy limit on blade length either. Well hey why not read the law yourself?

Nevada - Crimes against public health and safety. 202.350.

1. It is unlawful for a person within this state to:

(a) Manufacture or cause to be manufactured, or import into

the state, or keep, offer or expose for sale, or give,

lend or possess any knife which is made an integral part

of a belt buckle or any instrument or weapon of the kind

commonly known as switchblade knife...

(b)... carry concealed upon his person any...

(2) Dirk, dagger or machete... [A 1995 amendment

substituted "machete" in this subsection for "dangerous

knife."]

(4) Knife which is made an integral part of a belt

buckle...

2. It is unlawful for a person to possess or use a:

(a) Nunchaku or trefoil with the intent to inflict harm

From what I've gathered: if the knife is legal in your area, and you have at least part of it showing, it's considered legal. If it's under something like 1.5" it's legal to have in a pocket or in a purse...

So like I said, if part of it's showing, IE the pocket clip or sheath, then it's not concealed and thus you don't need a permit for it.

And! Unlike what someone else said, A concealed weapons permit at least in Arizona, applies to all weapons that are legal weapons. Which is why it's not called a concealed firearms permit. amirite?

It varies from state to stae, as well as by type of knife and length of blade. In My state, with a CCW you can legally carry a switchblade or other "automatic knife". Without it, you can carry a belt knife "in plain view" with a 5" blade, or a folding pocket knife with a blade no more than 4" in length in a pocket.

At least in Texas with a knife you're either legal or not. If it is an illegal knife (blade length-wise or style like the switch-blade) a CCW won't make it legal. I don't know about where you live but in Texas a 4" blade folding knife (that's not switch-blade) is legal.

Good luck.

This would depend on the laws in your local municipality. In most areas in the US, having a four inch non-doublesided blade (a 'pocketknife') is perfectly legal, outside of bars, liquor stores, or courthouses. However, the best way to be certain is to call your local police station and ask. They will understand that you are simply trying to obey the law.

You don't need a permit to own a knife..But carrying a knife like that concealed on your person is ILLEGAL in most states, and is considered carrying a deadly weapon. You didn't mention what state you live in, if you were to let us know we could advise you for sure.........

Concealed Weapons Permits are for firearms..Not knives...

Well in most states in the U.S it goes like this 3.5" blade is legal to to conceal, anything over that must be carried in a belth sheath exposed.
