What make/model 12 gauge shotgun cost no more than $250?

Question

I'm looking for a 12 gauge shotgun. I had a Mossberg 500 with a 28inch barrel. I wasn't happy with the recoil. I felt it had more kick than my Remington Woodmaster Model 742 30-06 does. Is there a shotgun made that has little recoil, that cost no more than $250?(pump action or semi, I do know semi auto tend to be more pricey. But just wondering if there are semis in that price range too)
Would a Benelli Nova cost that much?
I shot my cousins Nova, it seemed to me that it had way less recoil than my Mossberg did.

the only shot gun i know of that is at or under $250 is a single shot new England firearms that will kick the dickens out of you

you might have better luck looking for a used shotgun but if it is in decent shape will still cost more than $250

I have an inexpensive answer to your problem. I had the same darn problem; a light carbine style rifle in 30-06 that set me back to last wednesday when I fired it. Quite by accident I stumbled onto what is called a Limbsaver; a slip on recoil pad that has cells of gel or something inside. It made it quite shootable. I am sure there are other types and manufacturers of similar items but the one I used is labeled Limbsaver. It is also nice on any military rifle with a metal buttplate as it adds about an inch and a half of thickness; every military rifle I have ever seen is made for "one size fits all" and they are just too short stocked for me; an inch and a half makes all the difference in the world. Give it a whirl.

as far as pump guns go you are not going to find something with less recoil at least not in that price range.you have a fine shotgun maybe you should have considered a recoil pad.if you really don't like the recoil that much try using a 16 Gage, 20 Gage or a 28 Gage.i personally prefer the 20 gage anyway.

as far as your question about the semi auto guns,i really doubt that you will ever find one in that price range.Benelli as i recall is almost all prohibitively expensive.

The Remington 870 Express can be had sometimes for under $200 at places like Scademy Sporting Goods. The Mossberg 500 is around $240, and the Maverick, made by Mossberg is under $200.

For $250 and under ,you'll need to search out the used shotguns in local gun stores. The GAS operated type shotgun is your best bet for reduced recoil. The gas escaping from the firing shell is used to operate the semi-auto action which co-incidentally reduces felt recoil. That coupled with a good quality recoil pad like a basket weave pad by Pachmayer or a newer type like the limbsaver will keep you from hurting so bad. Your Remington 742 Woodmaster is gas operated also, which is why the recoil was not too bad even though it was shooting the 30-06. The 30-06 in a bolt action rifle will feel much stiffer.



A pump or single shot/over under shotgun will always transmit all of the recoil to your shoulder so it's essential you have a really good recoil pad if you are going to use one. I personally shoot 45-70 out of a H&R Handi Rifle but I do not care to fire one in 12 gage. They are pretty vicious. The recoil operated shotguns like the Browning Square back tend to have more recoil also.



I highly recommend the Remington 11-87 or Remington 1100 series shotguns, and you should be able to find a used one in good shape for around your price range. Put a good recoil pad on it and happy shooting!!

Just be patient and you will find a good used one either from an individual or Sporting Goods Store.*You can buy a new Maverick Model 88 Shotgun brand new at Walmart for $159.95*. It has a good reputation of being a well made but reasonably priced Shotgun.*

go to wal mart--get a maverick 12 ga, made by mossberg---usually under 200---great gun for the money--or go to auctionarms.com

Mossberg is about the cheapest out there and it will run you close to $270.00. Stoger makes a really good gun that is made mostly with Benelli parts. It will cost you about $320.00 (camo'd) then you also have the option to buy the Benelli mercury recoil reducer for about $50.00. The Stoger stock is set up to take the reducer with out any adapters.

honest , i say only a singel barrel, but i found , some great deal, at pawn shop,, i love the rem, an wont shoot any other gun,,, ,as for as the shot gun, i say the 870, be the gun you want,,are the the 1100, also a great gun, if it not a rem, you wasting your money, also on the 870 try to find the wing master, it , going to be the best of the gun,,,
