Can a wooden bow (like a bow & arrow) get wet, like in the rain, as long as it is dried thoroughly afterward - or would the water ruin it somehow? And the bow isn't strung, obviously. Would it damage the bow, even if you dried it after the fact?

It will not hurt the bow at all to get wet.The string should have wax on it to prevent the absorption of water and the bow will have a sealer on it to prevent any water damage to it. And if you are hunting in the rain and have an opportunity for a shot, go ahead and take it. It will not hurt the bow at all. I''ve shot several deer in the rain with no detrimental effects to the bow.

Bow currently is made from various materials... I guess it helps with fact that wooden bows with leather or other organic string are damaged by water... Also proper craftsman will strengthen bow by fat or other water resilient substance to prevent water effect... Proper storing and treatment to bow will also increase its durability... Water dissolve part of material organic structure what leads to lowering flexibility... Frozen water makes even worse by spreading its size inside material... I guess level of damage depends on how bow was made and how much water got in... also... if you plan to react by drying it and then... soaking it in protecting oil substance... I guess it should be enough... I almost forgot... Drying it can keep wood position... This effect is even used in production of bows... Anyway... such change to wood remembered shape will lower (even totaly) your bow strength... It means it will be hard to bent bow enough to shoot arrow... Unless you want to beat record in low range shooting...

most bows have a pretty good coat of varnish or beeswax or some other stuff to keep the wood from soaking up the water

Wipe things down with a towel and put the thing up like you normally would if you get wet

It will not do anything to the bow if you dry it, but if you use the bow while it is still wet then the bow will lose it's accuracy
