I am going to say Browning. They are a little pricier than the Remington's which are also great guns by the way but the Browning line of guns are so smooth and accurate. I have a Browning 270 BLR and love it. I have shot many different guns in all configurations but this is my all out favorite. It is fast and flat shooting and accurate and silky smooth with the lever , trigger and the hammer. It has the lever safety and also the folding hammer and half ****** safety so that you can feel sure the gun will not accidentally fire and it is a beautiful looking gun too. Hope I have been helpful.

On a budget the new Stevens 200 would probly be the best value, if price isn't as important as long lasting function i'd go with remington 700 series of rifles if you want bolt. If you are lookin for an assault rifle the FN Fal or G3 Clones are the way to go, not from Century Arms though.

I'm a big fan of the Remington line, but there are a lot of good ones out there.
P.S.- I don't know if you can hunt in a lot of areas with a FAL. Besides, the ergonomics don't work for a lot of people. It's too heavy towards the muzzle.

ruger, remington, savage, the list goes on. they'll all probably shoot good. buy the one that fits you best, don't be concerned about the brand name. after all, what's the difference between 1 inch and 1.25 inches at 100 yards. this is assuming you are buying a hunting rifle.

It depends completely on the style of weapon you are looking for. For a battle rifle, the FN-FAL is widely considered one of the best, though it will cost you a pretty penny (and you'll have to be careful about it's configuration if you live in Cali or NJ).

remington all the way baby!!!!! for the money it can run just as good as the big dawgs!!!(weatherby) (ruger), i have a 67' model remington 1100 shotgun, all ive had to do is clean it even has original rubber o-rings on gas cylender, and still shoots just as fast as a new one. i depend on it with my life. savage also makes a great bolt action in whatever caliber you like for a reasonable price.
