I am a new proud parent of a Glock 23 (.40 cal). I do not want to pay the outrageous prices at the gun range. I have looked online for different brands of ammo and have found some cheap stuff like Wolf ammo. I did see a lot of bad reviews on that kind of ammo though. Since I will probably be buying in bulk, I want to make sure that I get something that is not too expensive, but at the same time not complete crap. I am open to any opinions on where to buy from and what type.

Wolf (Russian) ammo will do you a very good job for you at the range. I don't use it because it's not reloadable. When you load up for self defense use a harder hitting round.

Well if you are going to use the Glock for a self-defense handgun, then use the ammo you will be loading it with when you will be carrying it for self-defense. You need to learn to trust the ammo you are going to use. I would never feed wolf ammo through any of my guns. They are steel cased and have a sort of waxy covering which will cause a many problems and your glock may have a very short life. I would find some good hollowpoints made by remington or winchester that are labeled for home-defense and use those. Usually on gunbroker.com or cabelas.com you can buy in bulk for a relatively cheap price. Also try cheaperthandirt.com. Make sure to look at the reviews. Also, if you are just using the handgun for plinking, just buy some chap but reliable ammo. Just make sure it's not wolf or really anything foreign made, I've had many jams with that stuff.

For pistol I buy Blazer FMJ since I don't reload it doesn't matter to me and I'm just target shooting so you don't need like hollow points. The only time you need to shoot any kind of hollow point or soft point is if you are making sure the ammo will feed into a gun you plan on making into a CCW. Otherwise go cheap, Blazer is 15 dollars a box of 50.

there should be a good supply of inexpensive ammo that is only a little bit more than wolf or blazer.

Look for PMC, Fiocchi, Seller-Belliot, Magtec, American Eagle (made by federal) UMC (made by remington), Remington 'green box' ( pretty much same as UMC, just not in the iconic yellow box with bold black UMC) Winchester in the "white box" nicknamed WWB

generally winchester and remington sell bulk amo for cheap but the .40 is hard to buy lots of ammo for for a small amount of money. course i could be wrong but that is just the conclusion i came to based on experience.

A shooting range may have rules and policies to prevent liability and ensure safety. A shooter is expected to abide by these rules.

So, if your firing range allows it, I suggest the following brands of ammunition.

Federal or their generic American Eagle brand

Remington or their generic UMC brand

Sellier & Bellot

Winchester or their generic *USA* brand

Blazer

Shop for the best prices. I've had good experiences at my local gun store and from Natchez Shooter's Supply.

Winchester makes some really good range ammo.
