CZ 52 for some simple reasons. Low maintenance, cheap and flat trajectory tokarev ammo and Ammo has Armour piercing capabilities

The 1911.

Just because there is so much you can do with it. It trumps every other handgun except in ammo capacity.

People say it's too heavy, but that's a good thing sometimes.

As for the Walther P99... It's an okay gun. I don't have any experience with the polymer Walther pistols. I have handled the P5 and P88 which are both similar to it. I know the old PPK/S when Walther manufactured them were great. And when they were in a rush to keep up with production numbers, the Smith & Wesson made ones were great. Ever since then, they've all been crap.

Otherwise I would really go with a Glock 19 if I wanted a polymer 9. Either that or a CZ P01.

For 1911s, I own a whole bunch of them. Two Springfield Mil-Specs. I sent one to the Custom Shop and had the Professional Package done for $1,800. Shoots like a dream. I have another Mil-Spec which is bone stock except for a deburring job. I have a TRP without the rail/no bull barrel. Good gun. Have a Loaded which is all built up for a target gun. Then I bought an EMP 9 last year which is a pretty good gun.

I have two Kimbers. A Tactical Custom II and Pro Carry II which are both all stock.

Have a Taurus which is all stock. Good gun for the money. A lot of people dis it cuz it's Brazlian but it shoots just as well as my Kimbers. It just uses a lot of MIM parts.

Had an RIA for awhile. Ended up selling it to buy the Taurus. It was a great gun for the money. Lot of MIM stuff.

Then I have two Colts. One is a 1960s Colt Government Model in .38 Super. The other is a Series 70 GCNM in .45 that I found at a Gander Mountain that was all worn out and I have put about $1,000 into it so far and it shoots great. All stock except I put a new barrel and the Series 80 style bushing in it.

I love the look of Walther handguns, mainly the P99 and P22. A buddy of mine has owned a couple of Walthers and told me that the slides are a little flimsy and wobble side to side (not sure how true that is, but that's what he told me). I am actually more of a revolver person. I love not having a magazine or safety to worry about. If you insist on getting a semi-auto pistol, look into getting a Glock or a 1911 of some sort, you won't regret it.

1911 - Taurus doesn't make the absolute best 1911, but for the price, you can't really beat it. They make a good, quality pistol.

Glock - Police carry Glocks for two reasons, they are cheap, and they work. They are proven to be one of the best pistol makers out there. Although some people don't like the look of them, they are great pistols.

Don't let my comment about Walther above stop you from buying one. I have shot a P22 before and it shot great without any problems. Walthers looks great and have a great rep. In the end it's up to you. Buy what you want to buy and have fun with it!

To me Germans forever! I own HK USP and new Walther PK 380, both are great guns. I use HK as my standard go-to-war gun, because it has all controls on the outside and... well I dont have to go into all the details, it IS HK :D

Walthers are also great guns, but you have to really figure out what kind of user you are. For example P99 is on the same shelf as Glock 19, so that means it might not be for you, almost no outside controls, no hammer, bla bla. So get familiar, before you trust your life with it.

For concealed carry I have new PK 380, great gun, it looks and operates almost like P22, only slightly bigger, picatinny rail , floating barrel and designed for 9x17 (.380) mil.

Right now, its a toss up between a RIA 1911 and a CZ82. When i get a Sig P220 and another CZ (75 or 97), those will likely be the new favorites.

If youre new to handguns, go to a range and try out as many as you can get your hands on. You can get pretty good advice from the web and other people, but most of it boils down to personal preference. Some brands to avoid are: Lorcin, Raven, Phoenix, Bryco, Jennings, Jimenez, Vulcan, and probably a few others ive forgotten. Taurus and S&W semi autos are said to be sketchy.

You could always look around and ask again, plenty of gun owners on here, someone is likely to have firsthand experience with whatever gun you are thinking about buying.

The P99 has a lot of fans. Never shot one so I can't say how it compares.

For a personal favorite: it depends greatly on the criteria for determining that 'favorite':

The one I shoot the best? Glock 19, with the Glock 17, M&P 9Pro and Springer Loaded close behind.

The one I think looks the best? Beretta 92/96 series, especially in the INOX finish. The S&W 1911Sc Commander roundtail isn't far back, though.

My all-around best performing pistol? SIG P228 "West German" circa early to mid '90s.

The one I carry and consequently my life depends upon the most? S&W M&P 9c.

The most fun? Too many to list...

Man, before you buy....look at a Glock 19. I am not a Glock fan, but if you are thinking about a P99- you should at least handle the G19.

Now that said- do you like a good functional thumb safety and a da/sa trigger??? Look at the FNX 9mm.

I promise you that you'll like it over the Walther.

Factory-tuned Colt Python. Hands down the finest handgun I ever owned. However, I understand that now this number runs about 1300 bucks retail from the factory. Ouch.

In the more affordable category -- Ruger stainless .357 magnum

Unlike semi-autos, with a revolver you are guaranteed to empty the gun at the bad guys no matter how dirty and muddy it gets from rolling around in the street. The revolver doesn't care whether or not your grip is perfect, and it doesn't care what kind of ammo you feed it. You pull the trigger, it shoots.

Citadel 1911 Concealed Carry model. It's basically an Officers Model 1911. I shoot it much better than my Loaded Springfield. I know it's a cheapo and I have a lot of better pistols... but I love that thing... it shoots where I point it.

In second place is my Walther P1.

I tend to favor my Smith & Wesson Model 65-2 .357. Older than me but man it is a nail driver in my hands.
