If gun control works, why is Mexico under siege by cartels?

Mexico has one of the world's toughest gun control laws. Citizens are only allowed to own a .22 lr rifle or a .38 caliber pistol or a shotgun in .410 or less. They can only own 1 firearm and have to pass extensive and expensive government licensing and registration checks and fees. Common people sometimes have to wait 1 year to be approved to buy a firearm, but they are mostly denied, there is a 1 in 6 approval ratio for a permit to own a firearm. There is no law that allows a citizen to defend his family or property in Mexico, if a homeowner defends his home with a firearm in Mexico, both he and the thug will go to jail under Mexican law.

George, the answer to your question lies in the question itself. The gun control system in place would be a work of art if all of the citizens of Mexico followed it. The Cartels by design have a limited number of Mexican citizens in them. Most of the drugs come from south america, and central america. The cartels then employee people from these areas who were trained to use the weapons that Obama has said must go. Noriega's former solders, Sandinista from Nicaragua, and persons trained in Venezuela. They have open lanes of travel to bring "assault" type weapons into mexico, corrupt police and government officials who allow this, and modern forms of transport that are not as regulated as they are here in the US.

Until the demand is lost or drugs are legalized there will continue to be cartels in Mexico. In turn the cartels will continue to bring in arms and solders to protect their investments.

Wow Steve. 600-100 per week. You know that the Mexican Government literally has warehouses full of confiscated guns, taken from the cartels, right? We are talking about close to half a million of them. Literally. And that is just what they have managed to take away. Guns in the US really aren't the problem here. I'm not trying to pick on you here, as I don't know what tone you were trying to use with your statement. But guns from here are a moot point.

Mexico not only has some of the strictest gun laws, it also has one of the most corrupt governments in the Americas. The politicians and military leaders ARE the cartel. coincidence?.... I don't think so.

There is no question that gun control works.

It is extremely effective for its intended purpose.

Russia, Cuba, and Nazi Germany are proof of this fact.

(Crime control is the excuse given to the public when the corrupt politicians want to "sell" a gun control law. People control (enslavement) is the only true purpose of gun control).

Because, and this is something that gun control advocates in the US don't get, criminals are not really worried about breaking the laws.

FYI I can garuntee you that the cartels did not get their grenades, grenade launchers, or full auto weapons from the US.

Edit for steve- I would love to know where you got the 600 to 1000 per week, since the Secretary of state and attourney general both lied about the number of guns traced back to the US.

First, its a poor country.

Second, the cartels have been in control of the country a long time via corrupt officials.

Third, who says Mexicans can't protect their property? Looking at how the country is, if someone breaks into your home, you shoot them. After they are shot, you don't report it. If the guy is alive, he gets away and knows not to come back. If he dies, they dispose of the body.

Because gun control laws are only followed by law abiding citizens. The drug cartels don’t give a damn about the law. It is in their nature to break the law. God bless America and the 2nd amendment.

Cause the criminals have money and power and can buy whatever they want on the black market or from the corrupt mexican government or mexican army.

The last paragraph of your question answered your own question.

Its because the laws that prohibit people from having guns and from protecting their homes/families.

Same question! Why is Australia under siege. After that gov took away guns, Home invasions went up 90%

Gun bans (ie.the liberals call it "gun control") only put the innocent at the whim of the criminal.

The flow of illegal guns from the USA is 600-1000 per week.

Because criminals don't buy their guns legally.
