If you are looking for a versatile shotgun on a budget than a Remington 870 or Mossberg 500 pump shotguns will be your best option. Both are rugged, reliable and have a plethora of aftermarket parts and accessories to customize to your heart’s content.
Generally you will find the best deals at large retail outlets or sporting store over boutique gun shops. Invest some time researching prices at local stores and keep an eye out for coupons or manufacture rebates as they can save you big.
As far as specific models, that really depends on your purpose. Smooth bore shotguns will give you the greatest amount of versatility for home defense or various types of hunts or sport shooting. Rifled barrel shotguns are better for hunting deer and medium light skin game. Keep in mind that shotgun barrels can be easily interchanged from smooth bore to rifle barrels. In addition most smooth bore shotguns are threaded for chokes which provides additional flexibility in controlling shot patterns and etc.

No, and because 20 gauge shells are no much low-cost why would you prefer to. definite, there are adapters which will assist you fire different shotgun gauges or rifle calibers out of a 12 gauge, yet as a well-known rule, NO you may't hearth AMMO IN A GUN that may no longer MADE to fire IT. in case you don't be conscious of precisely whilst and how it is risk-free to interrupt that rule, do no longer even think of approximately it.

most people, including me regard the remington 870 as the best pump action shotgun out there. for about $500 your can get one with a 26" modified choke shot shell barrel along with an 20" improved cylinder slug barrel
its definetly worth the money

I suggest a Remington 870. This gun is a pump shot-gun that has been around for decades and is still the benchmark for all other pump guns. There are some that are more expensive and fancier. There are also some a little cheaper. But dollar for dollar there is no better shot-gun than an 870.
You will not be disapointed

My first choice is the Remington 870, pump action shotgun. It's available in many gauges and configurations.
Depending on it's intended use is the barrel length, sights or bead only and stock style you get.
Extremely reliable.

Stoeger make some cheap ones and they are owned by Benelli and some use their inertia drive for about $500 you can get a pretty good semi auto.
Remington, or Mossberg Brands.* Buy used and save $$$.* A new shotgun doesn't shoot any better than a good used one.*

Try a mossburg maverick. Very cheap and reliable 12guage pump. I think walmart still carries them. I think there under $200.00 You may also want to try a pawn shop.
