I am looking for a scope for my .22lr that will allow me to push the limit of ballistic performance for the .22 round. I have looked at a variety of scopes, and in order to remain accurate at longer distances, I need a scope with adjustable turret style windage and elevation (the type where you just twist the turrets to adjust instead of having to remove a cover). I have looked a little at the bsa sweet .22 scopes and the cabella's tactical .22 scopes but am disappointed that adjustment on those scopes is based solely on the weight of the round (which I have learned is rather impractical). I am looking to spend under $300 for a scope and want the best quality for my money. Any suggestions? How about the best mounting system for my rifle (the best scope rings)? Also, what bulk .22 rounds do you recommend for accuracy and precision at longer ranges?

(and by the way. I have a Savage arms mkII .22 caliber rifle)

Stoney Point manufactures replacement turret knobs for scopes that replace the scopes adjustment covers and allowed fingertip changes to the settings much like tactical scopes have.

Many of the guys that I shoot with in high power rifle matches use them as they are made to fit a wide range of models allowing them to use the scope of their choice, but still have easy elevation and windage adjustments possible.

I've put a link below for the model meant for Leupold scopes to give you an idea of what they look like.

Cabelas also has a few "tactical" style scopes meant for .22s, but I don't know what the quality of those scopes is like.

As for the long range accuracy that you are looking for, all firearms prefer a specific brand (in the case of .22s) or a combination of components (for handloaders building rounds for centerfire firearms) that require a bit of trial and error to find which performs best in their firearm.

I haven't seen anyone shooting your model of .22 in a while, so I can't remember if it's already drilled and tapped for scope mounts. If it is, then Weaver brand bases and rings will work fine for you.

Good luck and good shooting -

Your rifle has slim and trim lines. It would look funny with a large scope on it. As for the mounts is your receiver grooved for a .22 scope rings? If so buy them they will work fine. The last .22 scope I bought was a Simmons t-22. Nice scope but the adjustments were inside a cover.

Take a look at the Cabela's rimfire tactical scopes at www.cabelas.com
