I have a few rifles I want to put away in a gun safe, the only problem is that I want to have my weapons secure, but at the same time I want to have easy access to get to them in case I need to use one. I was looking at different gun safes at http://www.homelandsafes.com
www.cannon.com
and other options such as gun locks or trigger locks, what would you recommend?

The gun safe is the best idea, for keeping them secure. Should you ever need a gun in an instant, a rifle is not the appropriate weapon anyhow... my advice would be to make your house a safer structure, and keep your hunting weapons stored away. Get a yard dog, or any other idea short of shooting someone. Personally, I use a "safe-room". Not only does it secure the weapons, but it keeps storms out, intruders out and everything in it safe. You can look right at it's entrance, and not know you are.

Gun vaults are definitely good protections for your guns albeit they limit quick access. Sorry, I don't use trigger locks or gun locks but I don't have any small children at home so... Keep a nightstand revolver with a speed loader nearby or a break-open shotgun with the ammo nearby, or one of those new-fangled auto loaders that won't shot until the magazine is inserted and hope you never lose the magazine. LOL! Beretta makes up to a .380 acp with a tip-up barrel so you can just drop a single in over a full magazine and start shooting. It is the Beretta Model 86 .380 and that is really a good option. If you don't mind a smaller caliber the Beretta 3032 Tomcat .32 acp has the same function.

Good luck.

I'm a big fan of the tier system for home safety and defense. Tier one, Lock all firearms in a good fireproof safe. Tier two, Get a CCW and carry a pistol at all times. Tier three, every night, my 12 gauge shotgun with a 20" barrel, extended tube magazine and flashlight installed in the fore grip comes out of the safe and resides on a stand beside my bed that I made special for it. The shotgun is loaded with a full mag tube, the chamber is empty, the trigger is pulled so that it is ready to rack a fresh round into the chamber and the safety is in the off postion. I can rack a round and apply the safety or rack the round and it's ready to fire. In the morning, the shotgun goes back into the safe, and my CCW pistol comes back out and onto my belt. I don't like trigger locks for a self defense firearm, it's way too time consuming to access in an emergency. Tier 4, a cell phone fully charged remains with me at all times. If you can't afford a good gunsafe, I have made do in the past with a closet, lined it with gypsum board to add fire resistance, installed a solid core door with 2 dead bolts. I built in racks to hold my firearms safely inside it. It's not perfect, but it will stop the casual burglar. Tier five, Install as good a home alarm system as you can afford. Even Radio shack sells some fair alarms that you can install yourself. Add a fake survellance camera on all 4 sides of the home, and you add another tier to the over all plan. A good family dog equals another tier.

Keep a handgun or shotgun close by (Bedroom) with ammunition, in case of intruders and put the rest of your personal firearms in a quality gun safe.

Get yourself a good programable zone alarm system installed

many of the GUN SAFES on the market are not really safes. They are RSC or residential security containers. If you want a real safe to store firearms buy a graffunder safe. Granted they will be a lot more expensive.

If you are looking to stop smash and grab stuff and normal criminals and kids a RSC will work good. get a cannon they are top notch.

I suggest placing all your guns in a cabinet to protect them from your children and snatch-and-grab theives. Determined theives can get in a cabinet pretty easy. Get a safe if you have a lot of dollars worth of guns you want protected.

Now, choose one handgun to keep at your bedside. Get a product like this

http://www.gunvault.com/handgunsafesminivaultstandard/

mount a flashlight on the gun, or put one in the lockbox with the gun.

Buy a safe to store the majority of the guns. Mount it to wall studs and/or the floor joists to render it harder to steal. Buy a bedside safe box that recognizes a password in which you could keep a loaded handgun handy.

my first line of defense, my 2 dogs. i have a mastiff and a rhodesian ridgeback. if they are harmed i have a gun available in several rooms, loaded and ready . i have no children so i can keep the guns where i want. yes, a gun safe and rack are in one room, and a wood cabinet in another room. if no kids are around, take a holster, and sew it under the bed mattress for easy access.
