Question:
Remington 870 question about adding siderail/weaver/picatinny?
2013-09-18 10:59:58 UTC
As you may have guessed by the title, I'm still a novice when it comes to guns and lingo. I do have a remington 870 tactical though, and I'd like to add some attachments to it. There aren't any holes drilled in the gun, so I need something that doesn't require that.

After doing research, I've heard different terminology for the siderail/weaver/picatinny, and I'm not really sure what the difference is, but that's what I'm looking for.

I'd prefer to buy something off Amazon if possible, but anywhere is fine. Thanks!

Do yourself a favor and do not put anything on that shotgun..... It would be an unnecessary waste of money..... Learn to actually shoot it..... Do not install rails, lasers, grips, bayonets, air conditioning or cruise control.... Its all "tacticool" nonsense......

You want cool?... They be an ace shooter..... Purchase a nice sling, decent case and lots of ammo to practice with..... A good shot is what impresses.....

Practice like this guy.....

If you want many different types of attachments, picatinny is the way to go. Weaver accessories will generally fit on picatinny rails but not vice versa. This is do to the spacing and size of the grooves. As for siderails they are just rails on the side of the gun.

Here are a couple links for tactical rails. I warn you the one you probably want is not cheap: http://www.amazon.com/Sports-Length-Tactical-Shotgun-Saddle/dp/B005N888AI/ref=sr_1_1/188-4904842-0601901?ie=UTF8&qid=1379552424&sr=8-1&keywords=remington+870+rail

However a less expensive option would be to buy a rail that mounts on top of the reciever:

http://www.amazon.com/Barska-Remington-870-Tactical-Mount/dp/B00BMAPG9M/ref=sr_1_28?ie=UTF8&qid=1379553150&sr=8-28&keywords=870+rail

and something else such as a forend equipped with picatinny rails to mount other accessories besides sights on.

You should have bought the Mossberg 500. All you are doing is adding unnecessary, even counterproductive junk to your weapon. All you want is tacticool. You should have bought one of the cheap $200 Turkish guns.

Your effective range with that shotgun is only 40 yards. if it is for home defense you do not have the time for a scope, a flashlight makes YOU an easy target, and by the time you point a laser pointer is actually slower than just pointing and shooting. You only have maybe 9-10 meters (32 feet) in the house anyway. that's 3 seconds to act.

..if you want a top rail...start drilling....google similar models and see what works and what doesn't....try an 870 forum or two...
