Israel has only 2,000 hunting licenses, and has stopped issuing any new hunting licenses. And most of the hunting licenses are issued to....people of Arab descent, not members of the Jewish Faith.

Maybe it has something to do with a complete lack of forests in Israel.

What do you suppose they are going to hunt in a freakin' desert, genius?

Long answer is because it is against halacha, the jewish law to hunt animals. Killing cannot be done for sport.

For an animal to be killed it has to serve a purpose, either for eating or for a horn or other body part which is essential to fulfill a commandment outlined in the old testament, such as blowing a rams horn on the new year and day of atonement.

The killing of an animal must be done in a very specific way, ensuring the animal feels no pain, and there are painstaking rules that govern the process; the knife must be exceptionally sharp, with no nicks, etc.

And there are guns everywhere, btw, because a firearm is a very necessary protection. domestic terrorism is rampant--there are 300 million arabs surrounding 5 million jews. do the math.

They are also surrounded by hostile nations and are a prime target for every Islamic terrorist group in the world. Most of the guns in the country are in the hands of militia members and are military small arms.

Maybe they don't have any kosher game animals. I wouldn't even want to try to prepare a kill following Jewish dietary laws.

Never been there, have you? there isnt very much to hunt, not to mention that its just not an 'outdoorsy" kind of place. Its simply not safe to go hunting in most of the country, and there isnt much game to begin with.

You wouldnt really want to hunt in the Korengal valley either, would you?

Q: "Do you find it odd that Israel has guns all over the place, has almost no hunting?"

A: No.

Comment: Israel's population is under constant threat from terrorism and foreign invasion.

Their level of preparedness is "normal" for them.

I admire it.

Other than a terrorist, what can you hunt in Israel anyway?

when you have been surrounded by your enemies for thousands of years your mindset is a little different. i hardly ever think of my guns as weapons. they are tools for getting supper. im sure in israel, the opposite is true.

They get lots of attacks because they are the only democracy in that area of the world.
