Question:
I was told the Sigsauer 556 classic is no longer in production? Total BS from on-line support at cabela's?

I was online looking at cabelas.com at the sigsauer 556 .223 rifle. The only one cabela's had online was the classic version of the 556. They had it on sale for around $1,400 i think. They usually charge $1,799.99. I thought that was way overpriced so i went to sigsauer.com and they had their MSRP as i think just around $1,150. So i went on to the online customer service at cabelas and asked the person how can Sig's MSRP be $700+ more than what they were asking. The cust serv rep said he could not find the same rifle on sig's website so i pasted him the link and he stated that the 556 on sig's website is a totally new rifle with updates and cabela's is one that was discontinued around 8-2010. Sig's website said their new products do have some new .223 but no where on sig's site could i find anything saying the 556.is not longer in production. I asked what is the difference on the model cabela's has and the one at sig's website and the rep did not know and said he would have to email me. The only difference i saw and read was the cabela's one came with a scope but sig had the same scope on a better model i believe it was the SWAT or patrol version that still had an MSRP $400 less than cabelas with more options. So can any one please clear this up for me.

Let me clear this up for you.

In America, in order for a business to stay in business, they have to make a profit.

Profit = the amount of markup they sell it for above what they bought it for.

If you enjoy shopping at Cabelas then go ahead and buy it there.

If you can find it cheaper somewhere else then go ahead and get it there.

If it angers you that a company is trying to make a profit then you don't truly understand how business works.

When Obama was elected to be president there was a "black rifle" scare.

A lot of people believed that Obama was going to try and ban these rifles.

As a consequence many gun stores couldn't order any of these rifles so they marked up their rifles very high in order to offset the fact that there was a nationwide shortage of these rifles.

There are literally thousands of choices in firearms and firearm retailers.

Look around and I'm sure you can find something you like for a price you'd like to pay.

Matt is there a point to this rant???? Don't like a dealer making a profit? That is the point of commerce. Want it cheaper? Shop some place else. There thousand of dealers in the USA. So turn off the computer & drive to one.

Edit: You already got the answer from Cabelas & Sig Sauer about production of the gun. So Why Ask US? As for markup? Cabelea's has stuff to pay for. A internet site. mailing costs. Utilities & etc. to pay for. To cover that, they charge what they do.....
