Ruger Mark III...except no imitations!!

This dude is very accurate and reliable. The only down side is breaking it down before it's broken in....this is a nightmare. Once you send a 1000rds down range it loosens up a little.

I own a Walther P22. I picked up the rare pink one for my 10 year old daughter. She loves shooting it. The weapon is fairly accurate and so far has been extremely reliable. We have fired close to 1000 rounds through it and haven't had any stoppages or malfunctions. We mainly run Remington or CCI 22LR cartridges through the weapon.

There is one slight draw back to the Walther P22. They have been known to get slide cracks when running high velocity ammo over an extended period of time. If you do purchase one, keep an eye out on the front part of the slide. That is where the cracking has occurred.

I normally would never recommend a weapon that I know has had a catastrophic failure, but the Beretta 92F is a perfect example. Beretta had some slide failures. It turned out it wasn't the gun, but the ammo that was being run through it. I own an American and Italian Beretta 92F and have put thousands of rounds through both of them and neither of them have any signs of fatigue.

As I mentioned earlier, I purchased the pink one for my daughter so we paid a considerable amount more for it. The average price in my area is under $350, which is reasonable.

There is also a new Sig Sauer Mosquito on the market with is also a semi-auto 22LR. I have not had the pleasure of fireing one of them though. I do know that Sig makes quality products, so you should look into it. There are some early complaints about the trigger pull, so dry fire it before committing to buy.

So, which 22 pistol do I recommend? I would go with the Walther P22 (in pink). Keep an eye on the slide and do not run ammo that is extremely high velocity (try to stay below or around 1000 fps).

i have a walther p22 and they are cute and fun but not a great accurate target pistol like a ruger mark 2 or 3 would be. or even the good old browning buckmark. the p22 is priced anywhere from 250-340 i have seen. the rugers and buckmarks are about the same price. all have been reliable for me

Guys..Gals....are we forgetting all of the conversion kits there are out there for say a Beretta 92/96? Or a 1911? These kits allow you to use .22 lr in addition to the original parent cartridge. While I do have to agree with most that a Ruger Mk II is (In my opinion) the hands down best. I just think that time and money would be better served by getting a conversion kit for an exsisting handgun or picking up a handgun and conversion kit.

The walther is a good shooter for match ammo and clean low velocity 22 ammo like eley, rws, gold metal. etc. I like the sig mosquito better and it digests cci stingers and runs dirty.

I own and like the Walther P-22. Mine has the laser sight and 3" barrel. Another good friend of mine owns one and loves it. Here's the deal, my P-22 only works flawlessly with the hottest .22 LR ammo I can find. Currently I use the CCI Mini Mag and it works perfectly. My buddy uses standard velocity .22s in his and it works flawlessly also! So just try different brand and types of ammo to determine which one works best in your particular P-22. Sub sonics don't work well at all in either one of our P-22s.

I own a Browning Buck Mark for my .22lr competitions and a Sig Mosquito for plinking and fun. My Sig was about 300 bucks and i think has a better feel and fit than the Walter. I also like the size better. The grip is everything to how you will shoot the gun and comfort.

If you're a responsible adult why not step up to a Hi cap 9mm and learn with a real weapon? You can always buy the toy gun later.

I own a s&w target pistol in .22lr and like it a lot. I have also heard a lot of good things about the Sig mosquito and like the way it handles since it is the same style as larger caliber Sig pistols but i have not had the pleasure of shooting one yet. What do you want to use this gun for? Check out http://buyingagun.info for more detailed advice about which gun will be best for you personally.

I have six .22 caliber handguns. Smith & Wesson target, Ruger Mark III, Walther P22, & SIG Mosquito. A SA Colt Peacemaker. A Taurus DA .22 mag revolver. By far, the best is the Ruger Mark III semi-automatic and the Taurus 941AA4. The Walther and SIG jam at the first sign of dirt or after being fired for some time. They need to be very clean to function properly. My wife shoots the P22 and it's her favorite. All the above handguns can be bought in the 300 - 350.00 range. My favorite is the Taurus model 941SS4. It's a very reliable 8 shot, .22 magnum, stainless steel, DA, revolver with a 4 inch barrel (350.00).

My wife and I each have a Walther P22 and I have a SIG Sauer Mosquito. We like all the guns, especially the Walthers. They are fun to shoot, easy to maintain and, from our experience, well-made. The P22 is my wife's favorite firearm and it's definitely one of mine. The interchangeable backstraps are nice, too; my wife uses the standard size and I use the larger one.

We have fired thousands of rounds through each of the guns. After trying lots of different brands, we have settled on Remington Golden Bullets in the bulk pack and CCI Minimags. Your results may vary. You should avoid cheap ammo as it will quickly foul the barrel (in any .22 long rifle firearm). We also clean our guns after every trip to the range. The only problems we have had are with bad ammo and dud rounds. We have found the Walther to be slightly more forgiving than the SIG, but I do love the way the SIG feels in my hand.

Ignore those who are dismissive of your choice of caliber for a first handgun. The .22 long rifle is easy to learn to shoot, low recoil and even the premium ammunition is less expensive than centerfire rounds. This means you can afford to have fun and really get to know your P22 without breaking the bank.

The Ruger and Browning are fine guns but I have owned a number of .22 handguns and I think the Walther is the most fun of any of them.

The p22 works fine. It's picky with ammo( federal or cci is all it will take), and it's not the most accurate, but it's a fun little gun. Pretty reliable, considering it's rimfire. And cheap to shoot. Personally, I dislike the looks, but that's opinion. If you like it, that would be great. If oyu're looking to save a little more, the ruger mark 2 or mark 3 are pretty good, too. Not as fun, but more accurate. If you can't afford that, the Phoenix arms HP22 is OK. Not as good as the other two, but you get what you pay for.

the p22 is a very good gun. if you get a 22 caliber, that is definately what you want. my uncle bought a new bersa and it jammed up in the first 10 rounds. the p22 wont do that. i have to disagree with the comment that said you should go for a 25. the ammo is hard to find and way more expensive. 22 is a good caliber. if you do decide to go up you might want to check out the new one walther came out with, the pk380. very good caliber also. check it out a waltheramerica.com. hope i could be of some help

The p22 is a good quality fun plinker, as is the Sig mosquito. The few times ive shot the p22, I had no issues. The sig is better built, and likely more accurate. If you hold it, you'll notice the difference.

I like my Beretta U22 Neos which I got for $249 at Bass Pro Shops. I recently put 250 rounds through it in 30 minutes without any malfunctions. The groups are tight and it field strips easily to clean. I think it's a great gun for the price.

For the price, why buy a .22? You can find medium-sized guns at the same price if you go to gun shows and pawn shops. Sure, the ammo will cost a little more, but you'll have more fun with a heavier caliber.

I would go ahead and step up into the thirties :32 ,380,38 etc..22 and 25 are strictly gut guns.If you are dead set on one Id spring for a 25 Beretta just cause its a fine weapon. You know its good if I went to court one time to fight and get mine back
