We can go through so many scenarios when it is more than feasible to have a firearm.

It is MORE than wise, in this society and day and age, along with the area you live in, to have a Firearm.

Examples:

I'll give you a few perspectives:

Situation A:

You get an alarm system. A person breaks down the door in the middle of the night, or even when you are home, and are committing a home invasion. The alarm takes anywhere from 30-60 seconds BEFORE the alarm company calls you because a PIN has not been entered. If they receive no answer, it will take 1-2 minutes to call the Police. The best response time for the Police is usually 3-5 minutes, possibly MUCH more depending on where you live.

Now, consider this - the man, high on drugs, possibly with more people than himself, are in your home, with knifes or (more likely) guns.

In 3-5 minutes, most thieves can be out of there with alot of valuables, you dead or seriously injured, or you, knocked unconscious.

YOU MAY be in the position to get

Situation B:

A person breaks down the door in the middle of the night, or even when you are home, and are committing a home invasion, or sneaks into your home in the middle of the night OR when you are away, and you come home. You have no alarm system. The intruder is smart enough to cut your phone line before entering (as most are). The man has a gun, or knife.

Example - the man is rummaging around in the middle of the night, and wants to see what is upstairs. You and your wife have heard them, have tried to call 911, and can't (see prior). The man is hell bent on getting money or property to pay for his drug habit, or just doesn't care about human life. He comes upstairs, sees your locked door, and breaks it open. He is big, and high as a kite and feels no pain. He knocks you out, rapes your wife, and knocks her out or ties her up and you too. He now takes his time taking whatever he wants. You could sit there for hours or days before you could get free or someone discovers you.

Enough for you?

I know this is VERY graphic, but it is NOTHING but the truth. It has happened MANY times over.

Of course, there is different outcomes, scenarios, etc. but to answer question, YES, it IS the best defense. You have to physically come close to your attacker to use a Knife, with a Firearm you can be 25 yds away and empty the gun IF necessary, and it will quite likely of the time stop them.

Hope this helps - if you want to talk more feel free to email me at chrisf8657@hotmail.com

Hell NO guns are too loud and will be messy, you have to scrub the walls clean from brain matter and spots of blood must be covered with ammonium, so there is no trace. Then the garbage bag (double thick) has to be stuffed and dragged out side to the 2' by 6'' hole six feet down and toss them in cover it up and buy soot to put over to make it look like nothing is there. Then go back into the house clean everything up pullout the bullets and putty in the holes. take the bullets and gun cover in ammonium let it soak for a couple days before you the go to the nearest junk yard and dispose of it into a compactor. This whole process will take time and will be messy. So guns are not the best home defense. Now the best home defense, or the one i use anyway is, Thoroughbred tiger/lion mix. This is commonly know as a liger. This animal will patrol, kill, and eat an intruder with out a thought.

The best home defense would be first owning a home in a safe place( like in the woods in Vermont) 2nd having an alarm or waring system( in Vermont) 3rd having a loaded 45 and 12ga close by and being capable of killing a burglar( Vermont Believes in the second amendment and has no gun permit laws and you can shot and kill in self defense). So guns alone are not the best defense. All three of my answers are but you are not always able to have all three. So if I had a choose between the three, it would be a Gun.

NO

Guns are a last resort

The best defense is a home that does not look inviting and that tries to prevent unauthorized entry

be that an alarm system with warnings posted, a big mean dog in the yard or bars on the windows

Once the home has been invaded though it would be hard to find a more adequate defense that a firearm in a trained hand

They're useful. Good fencing and an alert dog are also good to have. Claymore mines and concertina wire would be the best, but neighbors usually object to such things.

If you have concerns about the legalities of using deadly force to protect yourself, find out if the place where you live has a "Castle Doctrine" law. Based upon your spelling of "defence," I have a hunch that you may be in Canada, the UK, or some similarly benighted country in which the ancient and honorable right of self-defense has been effectively outlawed.

Common sense should always be the first defense.

Keep your doors locked. If you see suspicious cars or activity in your neighborhood, be sure to take down license plate numbers and try to get a good look at the people.

A BIG dog is great for home security. Some folks will mess with people...even armed people, just for the hell of it. But most folks are afraid of a ferocious looking doberman.

Pepper spray is good to have around as well.

And yes, a firearm or firearms (plural) are a great way to protect yourself as a final resort. Shotguns are preferable, since they are the best close range self-defense weapons.

The replies to this questions are idiotic at best.

Seriously, put a lock on your door? That is your answers to a home invasion? How does one even argue with that logic lol So what do you do when the average home invader kicks in your door or breaks a window? You let the dogs loose? Another genius idea (insert rollseyes). Do you know how many lawsuits there is in this country for dog bites...including burglars during a home invasion? Just about as many if not more than wrongful deaths from a burglar being shot to death during a home invasion. Now that the burglar is in your house, the house alarm buzzing, your dog is dead and the police is 10 minutes away, then what?

I'd say a loud, vicous sounding dog, a good security system, unpick-able locks and a kick proof door would be my first defence option, then if they can break that, I'd have my gun handy, if your planning on attacking the intruder, a gun is the best option, anything else is bulky(baseball bat, since you need to swing it, too much for a enclosed space like a hallway) or you need to be too close(knife), and pepper spray is known to fail against drug induced intruders and can backfire on you.

a gun is my last choice, but if I need to use it, I will not resist using it.

No I don't. To me, they are 4th on the list.

1. Good locks, sturdy doors and windows

2. An alarm system

3. Good lighting and visibility on the perimeter

4. Gun

The reason a gun is put 4th on the list, is that a gun only works when you are at home. The rest function whether you are at home or not.

Yes. Yes I do. Along with a dog or three, a plan of action, and training on how to use said gun safely and effectively. I would also suggest a good lawyer on standby also. Just covering the basics.

The best home defense is making it unattractive to the would be burglars, creeps, and goblins. Things such as a dog (preferably a big one), motion lights, alarms, thick bushes in front of accessable windows (preferably bushes with prickers on them), sturdy doors with deadbolts, knowing your neighbors well, etc all help make your home look like less of a target.

the gun is for in case the bad guy does get in, in order to protect yourself from harm.

a 12 gauge and a really big dog that barks at alot of stuff, dog wakes up starts barking and runs right to the person breaking in, just follow the barking and get ready to shoot

currently the really big dog is being substituted with an anklebiter but if anyone was to come into the house that dog would jump up instantly and run right to them and start barking, the damn thing starts barking if someone is on the street near our house

No, not if that's the only thing you're relying on. Being such an unattractive target to the goblins that you never have to directly confront one is probably the best defense. But a gun in hand is a very useful tool if one of them ever fails to get the message.

Guns are good for home defense, because they allow a short 5 foot woman to confront a 6 foot tall rapist who is trying to take away her dignity, it gives her a choice to survive.

I have a 135lb. Belgian Shep/Akita mix who isn't exactly *friendly* to strangers...

I have a 5'6'', ~120lb. wife who can swing a 1923 Ithaca 16ga. SxS up to her shoulder as well as I can.

I'm 5'10-11'' ~192lbs... with a Ruger Redhawk tucked between my headboard and mattress... jacked up on adrenaline, and I know I have a lot at stake. I guarantee I won't be friendly.

Not only do firearms make for good HD/SD... so does a little planning and forethought.

Yes Because if Id want that person or persons in my house i would have invited them in

If they break in my place they personally better wear a vest because a 45 bullet will find them

Ps i could beat the crap out of them with a bat but it would be too much work

In my 56 years of life, I have detered several thieves from robbing my abode. Sadly for 2 of them they didn't get the hint and ended up in a box. A gun also kept a kife wielding rapist wannabe from assaulting her. I am sure he died in agony since she is not that tall and gut shot him with 3 rds of glazer safety shells.

For home defense what better option is there. Everything else are just deterrents. What if they dont work? And the cops are not going to be there to help you.

Best defense is a good offense...

Go back to The Code of Hammurabi, "If anyone commits a robbery and is caught, he shall be put to death"

I think guns are the best self-defense.

I think dogs and alarms are the best home defense, when your home, it's always self-defense!!@

if you know how to use them they will not only be the best home defense they will also be the best tool for self defense. someone comes into my home i BY LAW am able to use any means necessary to protect my home and family and i will do so by all means necessary

Actually my gun is fifth in line for my home defense. The first line of defense is my fence. If you crawl over it you will run into my second line of defense, motion activated lights. You ignore the lights and break into the house, you set off my third defense, a loud alarm. You plug your ears and enter the house, you run into the fourth line of defense, Lotus Blossom, my easily annoyed Rottweiler. Get past the dog and you run into the fifth line of defense, me, with my pump 12 guage and my wife with her .40 cal. semi auto.

Note that I did not include the local police in this. While I will call them it will be too late to do you any good if you have gotten to the 5th line of defense. They are basically there to take a report and arrange for the disposal of your carcass.

Yes.

An alarm won't scare off someone on drugs.

A dog can get shot.

Locks can be picked.

A bat is no match for a gun.

-Locking your windows

-Alarm system

It really depends.

Some life-long NRA members (whose names I won't mention) have gone from their life-long support of it... to making entire movies that are seemingly against it.

It really is a tug-of-war as far as logic is concerned.

I do believe that gun ownership does have, if anything, a very symbolic role in demonstrating how strongly we are adhering to the Constitution, and how weakly we are not.

locks

alarm

gun (usually shotgun is best)

dog (if able to take care of one)

If your gun is accessible enough to quickly grab in case of emergency, then it most likely is too accessible to be safe around your house. Lock your doors, keep a light on in the house.

Thieves try to avoid confrontation, looking for vulnerable and easy targets. Any lock can be broken. But a thief jonsing for a fix would rather move on to the next house that isn't locked as well, and doesn't have any lights on.

Also, Most thieves aren't really armed. Most thieves are just looking for some cash or something to pawn so they can go score some.

I personally think that the Best home defense is not a gun but the best use of the available resources for defense is the best way to defeat the enemy.

For this no need to get or buy the gun for defence

No, I personally think guns are horrible weapons. Specially machine guns, large guns, like HK416, AK47, MP5, M4. If I did bank robbery or threat a man by M4, and cops or someone who can be witness came, how am I going to hide it. They are too large to hide it, I will get shot and killed by police easily. But If I did bank robbery or threat a man by small guns or small knifes and when cops or police came near by, I can hide it fast and easily, before someone, or police see me and I can escape without any witness. It is not just that, I can`t walk around with M4, cops would come to shoot me, or enemies will respond that I am threat, so they will shoot me, but with HK USP in my pocket, I can walk around anywhere, no one will notice that I am threat. I still don't like small guns, gun shots are loud and it can make witness, and guns are limited with bullets, if I shoot the man by gun, cops can investigate by the bullet I used. So I like small knifes, they are cheap, easy, and it is size of pocket. But the problem with knife is blood will splash on me, and my cloth, hand, face will get bloody. There is special knifes that blood wont splash, and there is techniques to cut to not get blood all over the place. All I have to is, act like I am not a threat, walk normal towards the target, and pull out the knife from my pocket and attack a man, then quickly, hide knife in to my pocket, before someone see it.

I am not saying I do bank robbery or threat man by knife, but I am saying this just for example.

For home defense, having samurai sword is very stupid idea, because mostly you will be in the room, so there is no room to swing around the swords. Also, guns have limitation of bullets, so if you shoot about 5, bullets will be all gone, so it is necessary to have knifes also. Speaking of guns, shotguns are best for indoor, but my favorite is MP5 with silencer. With this enemy will have hard time where you are, so you will have chance to shoot them before they shoot you.
